Coolstar - the band from the Fatal Equation trilogy
Coolstar is the rock band that runs all the way through the Fatal Equation novels - a fully functioning group on the page, formed by fictional songwriter and lead character Ali Kurmi. The songs you read about in the books are also real recordings, written and produced in the real world by author Gethyn Jones.
The music isn't there simply to mirror every twist of the plot or to spell out character journeys. Instead, Coolstar is treated as if it were a genuine working band that just happens to inhabit the same world as the story. Their tracks are performed, mentioned, and woven into scenes in the trilogy - but they're also meant to be heard as standalone songs in their own right.
In spirit, Coolstar has something in common with the idea behind Spinal Tap: a fictional band whose catalogue exists outside the fiction. The difference is that Coolstar plays it straight - a band spun out of a series of novels and brought to life in the studio.
